Easy Rider Dennis Hopper dies of Cancer at Age 74 * A VERY Colorful Life!!

Who does not remember Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider * yes, the movie had Jack Nicholson and Peter Fonda * however, Dennis, the bikes and the music WERE the movie!!!

My FAVORITE Dennis Hopper movie is FLASHBACK as he has the memorable line * " the 90s is gonna make the 60s look like the 50s"

Easy Advertising: Personalized Water Bottle Labels for Your Open House

I LOVE this idea * even if I do it myself.  I leave bottled water in homes when I leave keys for new residents so this information is TIMELY!!!

Via Sonsie Conroy (Coldwell Banker Premier Real Estate):

With summer coming on fast, people will be drinking lots more water. Why not personalize the water bottles you hand out at your open houses or other occasions? It's easy, fast, and inexpensive.

There are two basic approaches: Buy self-sticking labels of the right size in a variety of colors and styles, or use plain paper (any color) and glue-stick or tape the labels to the bottles. The advantage of the first plan is that it can look a bit more professional and clean (but it costs more and goofs cannot easily be fixed). The advantage of the second method is that it is very inexpensive, and the bottles can be relabeled as necessary if you don't give them all away at one open house.

A good source of labels in a huge assortment of colors, styles, and paper quality is:

http://www.worldlabel.com/Pages/water-bottle-labels.htm

As a price example, 100 sheets of glossy white labels, self-adhesive, seven labels per page, is $49.95 plus $4.95 shipping. Share with several agents and save even more! You can get gold or silver foil, plus numerous regular colors. (This price does not include printing.)

At the foot of that page is a free template for you to use in designing your labels. Also download and use this template if you want to print your labels on paper you supply.

If you print on your own nonstick paper, use a small piece of tape to attach the label to the bottle by overlapping the edges and taping them together. Then, should you need to reuse the bottle for another event, just take an X-acto knife and slit the label along the taped edge. Just attach a new label as needed!

Here's a recent sample. I used plain paper and printed in color, but I could have used stick-on labels, or plain paper in a color or pattern.

FIVE ITEMS I WISH I had on my FIRST Day in Real Estate!!!

I WISH I had known to have these when I first started in real estate * NEWBIES take note!

1)  Loads of cheap pens * I used to buy cheap pens in bulk and they never lasted and were easily lost.  I need them at my home, at my office, in my car and in my property presentation folder.  I know I spent hundred$ of dollar$ over my career buying these pens.

NOW, I get FREE pens from SirSpeedy when I have my printing done.  I have actually managed to keep them AND have run several out of ink!  I don't know where they get them, I just know I always take one when I leave with my printing order.  Unfortunately, they only come with BLACK ink so I also have a GOOD Mont Blanc pen with BLUE ink that I have managed to retain for over 5 years!

2)  Loads of note pads * again, I used to buy these at Office Depot and have them at my home, office and car.   Originally, I would use the back of the phone messages, discarded envelopes or business cards; however, NOW I want smaller size note taking capability so I AGAIN am getting my note pads FREE from SirSpeedy.   I have them on my office conference table, by my home laptop computer * perfect for jotting blog subjects * and at work at my desk.  I also have card stock 3x5 printed note paper from Levenger with my name, phone and e-mail address.  I use them to provide to prospects if I run out of business cards AND they are perfect for jotting notes and slipping them onto my steering wheel as a reminder!

3)  Toilet paper * This may appear silly; however, if you have ever been in a vacant property miles from a public restroom and the bathroom has no toilet paper, you KNOW what I mean.  I keep them to stock vacant home listings as it is RARELY thought of in the move-in process and is certainly useful during the showing process.

4)  Key tags * I have learned to have a clear plastic presentation envelope when I meet prospects so that I can keep MY important paperwork paperwork and KEYS together.  Having the adhesive tags to place on keys for DEALBOLT * LOCKSET * STORAGE * often saves a second or third trip to the property to mark them.  I have graduated to having my own imprinted key tags made by Sanzo; however,  I still check the keys and affix the labels to keep them straight.

5)  Band Aids * There is not a week that goes by that I do not need a band aid "on the job"....usually a manfunctioning mechanical device like a fluid master or turning a stuck valve * I get scratched and nicked.  NOT BLEEDING on my clothes and car is a good idea.  Newer band aids actually come with antibiotic in them....and YES, they have NASCAR band aids.

NOW...I do not leave my home without these items....I wish I had not taken so long to learn about needing them * the hard way~

Splash around in the 'Pool Safely'

Excellent information for private and public pools!

Via Anna 'Banana' Kruchten, Phoenix Property Shoppe:

Splash around in the 'Pool Safely'

The weather has been beautiful lately, but we all know those temps will be rising soon.

And what better way to cool down than jumping in a pool? But remember to be safe!Follow the rules!

The national campaign Pool Safely launched yesterday (Monday, May 24). This campaign aims to reduce child drownings and entrapments as well as change the way people think and act about pool and spa safety. This is "first-of-its-kind" national effort not only educates, but informs the public about how many drownings and entrapments incidents occur annually.

Here are the stats provided by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):

2005 - 2007 Pool & Spa-Related Drownings
Children younger than 15: 385
Children younger than 5: 299 (of 385 total)
74% of the fatalities occured at a residence (of children under 15)

2007 - 2009 Pool/Spa Emergency Department-Treated Submersions
Children younger than 15: 4,200
Children ages 12 to 35 months: 47% of 4,200
54% of the estimated injuries occured at a residence

Other Facts from CPSC:

  • Most reported fatalities (73%) occured on the day of or within a week of (23%) the submersion incident.
  • 4% of fatal victims survived beyond a week of the submersion and had severe injuries and required intensive medical care.
  • No reported entrapment fatalities were reported for 2009.
  • CPSC received 8 reports of entrapment incidencts in which 7 people were injured during 2009.

Pool Safety Tips:

  • Place physical barriers completely around the pool to prevent drownings. Fences and walls should be at least 4-feet high.

  • Closely supervise young children! Never take your eyes off them; not even for a second.
  • Never use flotation devices as a substitute for supervision.
  • Keep a phone and rescue equipment next to the pool
  • LEARN CPR.
  • Gates (around the pool) should be self-closing and self-latching and out of reach from children.
  • For above-ground pools, steps and ladders to the pool should be secured or removed when the pool is not in use.
  • And, if a child is missing, always look in the pool FIRST!

Text Message to CraigsList: It's Over, You've Cheated On Me For The Last Time

I use Craigslist DAILY in my AGGESSIVE rental marketing efforts; however, I stopped using postlets and am using the EXPORT option from my HERO * HomeRentals.net * hosted website where watermarking is done AUTOMATICALLY!!!

Via Sally English|Atlanta Georgia Real Estate (The English Team at REMAX Executives):

Text Message to CraigsList: It's Over, You've Cheated On Me For The Last Time

The scammers now own CraigsList in Atlanta.  After an up and down relationship for the past few years, I am throwing in the towel and calling it quits on CraigsList Postings.  Everytime I post a house "for sale" on CraigsList, I start getting calls from people who want to know if the house really is "for rent" at the incredibly low price of $800 per month.

Craigslist ScamScammers copy my text and photos from the real estate for sale by broker ad and then post a "rental" ad by owner with a rental rate that is 1/3 the going rate.  They try to get unwary renters to send them a deposit for this fake rental ad.

I tried to deal with these situations by notifying Craigslist of the fraud and by posting info online.  The scammers are not even slowed down by these tactics.  Craigslist often does not even bother to remove the fake rental ad post.

I have had it. We are done Craigslist.  Take your free service and go home. CraigsList may be the preferred vehicle of some demographic groups but that will soon change when the lax posting policies allow scammers to completely take over the service.  The news this morning in Atlanta reports a family was robbed at gun point after they advertised a diamond ring on Craigslist. The robber showed up to "purchase it" at gun point.
