For the second time in 2 weeks, I have had prospects who want to view my rental homes show up LATE for their appointment because of their GPS.
Now I have BEAUTIFUL directions on my web site listings - directions from nearest large street/road with R/L turns AND there is a photo of the front of the house. Usually the wife has printed out my listings and the direction section is on the first page of the 2 pages.....meanwhile, the husband insists on using their GPS - either brought with them OR rented with their rental car.....1 prospect couple was sent down a dirt road to a new subdivision that does not have a name on it and the second couple was directed the WRONG way on a ONE WAY street * shorter, yes * but not exactly SAFE!!!
I've now added a suggestion to my confirming e-mail or phone call - print and use MY directions....play with your GPS, get to the property by my directions!!!

I had buyers following me to a listing which specified in the MLS - "Do NOT follow GPS directions!" I forgot I had my GPS on, and turned when it told me to. I soon realized it had me going around in circles!
Wallace, like all technology GPS is great when it is up to date. It pays to have written backup directions. Sometimes MapQuest is all that accurate either. I guess when all else fails, read the MLS printout.
Old school is not all bad
I have several listings that I specifically tell people to not use GPS because it will just get them lost. If they choose to not listen to me, then the joy of getting lost is their reward.
Ah, but I love when my Tom Tom gets me lost. Kudos to you for putting the directions on your MLS sheets!
I sat waiting at an appt today reading PEOPLE mag and how Kate Gosslin of Jon&Kate+8 got lost on her way to get a latte.....her GPS lied to her.
My appointment called me telling me that their GPS indicated they would be 8min late. Since I had another appt scheduled 30 min after theirs, I indicated they could drive by, and I could not wait....my waiting for THEM would make me late for someone else. I know where I am and where I have to BE and WHEN!!
My directions are on my website which allows MORE SPACE for printing than our local MLS....UGH!!
Good for you Wallace. I am guilty of being lazy too - allowing the gps to take me is great.... but sometimes means.... LATE!
I had not thought of Brian's writing in DO NOT USE GPS * I'll add that to my directions in the future!!! Thanks
Wallace--I have had the same problem in big cities like Pittsburgh. The tall buildings confuse the GPS satellite. Good advice to follow your directions and/or include note in MLS info.
Nice to meet you here.
PS Diane sent me via link on her post.
I'll thank Diane - although we don't have the TALL buildings problem, we do have dirt roads and loads of cul-de-sacs that seem to confuse the GPS system....roads appear to join and they do not
