9 *11 **** Special Memory **** Where were You?

At my age, there are several moments in my life where I remember EXACTLY where I was when an event occurred!!!!

....when JFK was shot

....when SPUTNIK went up

....walk on the MOON

....assault on WACO

....9 * 11 * 2001

On that day, I was in my office meeting with a would-be client in my conference room and my office manager came in and said her mother had called and said to turn on the news.  Luckily our conference room had a TV and we watched NBC and saw the second tower go down.  My would be client had worked at the Pentagon, a suite mate's sister worked in Tower One (luckily, she was late to work that day) and several of the office tenants had friends or relatives in the Pentagon.

I was living in Rome, Italy.  Just had returned from a visit to my home in Manhattan just the day before. I happened to be watching the one English speaking TV station we received and was afraid to leave my house for days.

I was at work in a school in Baltimore City in a meeting when my husband called to say what had happened.  We turned on a tv in time to see the second tower fall.  They then ushered us out of the school quickly because there was fear that Baltimore may have been on a target list.  I drove all the way home with tears because we hadn't heard from my best friend who worked at the Pentagon.  My clearest memory was that it was such a stunningly beautiful day here.  Unfortunately the following morning we got the news we had worse feared about my best friend.  8 years later, it still is the single most painful day of my life.

Marjorie and Stacey-Ann * thank you for your memories......My cousin was studying in Paris when JFK was killed and she had people she did not even know come by her room/apt for days afterward telling her how sorry they were.....

I had been at work for a few hours when my husband called and told me to find a tv.  Still remember every moment of that day, wondering if my husband and brothers would be called to war, feeling so much for everyone involved, wondering where would be next.  I think it's a big part of why I feel so called to volunteer with veteran and military groups and glad of the programs we can offer, just thankful these men and women are here to protect us on a daily basis.

Penny * thank you for your volunteer efforts. I actually have tenants who are going for their second and third tour overseas and I am in awe of them and their families.

Husband and i sat watching on the news in the beginning before anyone knew what had happened.  It's changed our day...... it was a day the world stood still.

I was just at home watching the news, early morning here on the West Coast.  I called my sister who likes to sleep late and told her to get up as we were under attack!  I just thought it would keep going on, and it would have had it not been for the people on the flight that landed in Shanksville.  I think they were heading for the Capital.  I can't even imagine the state our country would have been in if they had suceeded.  I have visited Ground Zero and it was very moving.  Thanks for the post.

Sandra - I'm sure Ground Zero is very moving and watching the coverage yesterday on TV was also emotional...I'm glad I watched and I'm very glad for the coverage
