PropertyManagementMaven: Tell me WHY Realtor Offices have such ANTIQUATED Phone Systems?

Tell me WHY Realtor Offices have such ANTIQUATED Phone Systems?

Why should I write down my callers' phone numbers?  My office phone LAND line forwards to my cel phone and has for over 3 years....there is a way for Realtor offices to utilize their incoming land OFFICE line with a voicemail menu that will make their agents' CEL PHONES their extension phones so that when they call me from their CEL PHONE and I RETURN their phone call, I do not get an office voicemail with a menu tree of 30+ agents....I promise that if you ALLOW me to take your voicemail message and RETURN your call by my phone's 8 key, I will call you back.....if you call from your office land line, and I get your phone tree agent menu which is cumbersome to operate, you think I have not returned your call....if you call me from your CEL PHONE, I can return your call, answer your question and assist you with your inquiry on my property for your client.

If I have to write down your extention, how you spell your first or last names and what phone #s you will be at for the remainder of the day, you need to lobby for a new office phone system OR just use your cel phone.

Diane * the OLD SCHOOL real estate offices had 2 agents per desk that make it more comfortable for them to be OUT IN THE FIELD - checking property, meeting people, showing property....NOW, we have the technology to do JUST THAT and agents want to stay in their office to "check the computer"

One number one call and we do it all. I agree with you on the phones and the voice mails are really funny at times.

The AFTER HOURS office phone directory/tree are the WORST......Suzy WHO?  Bill WHO?  I need your LAST NAME to get your EXTENSION to LEAVE YOU A MESSAGE?....or NOT.  If I really want to return their INTEREST, I'll e-mail them and when they call AGAIN asking why I did not return their call, I mention how hard it is to get in touch with them AND that I e-mailed them.

Wallace, I don't think the phone system is Antiquated as much as it is complicated. We don't need all the bells and whistles as much as a viable ring and dial tone...
What a great day to be alive!

Paul * I totally agree.  When offices were recruiting for agents, they touted the bells/whistles of technology and the office staff they offered who knew how to WORK IT....NOW the office staff is GONE and the systems are TOO complicated.

Wallace - I agree I hate it when I get office voice mail systems with a long list of extensions.  I'm glad that my direct number will forward to my cell phone.

Pam * I listed this as a PET PEEVE in response to recent CAAR newsletter.....agents who leave their first name and their office VM extensions are by their LAST names....
