Running back Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jacksonville Jaguars went to the Daytona International Speedway Thursday to be the grand marshal for the second 150-mile qualifying race on Thursday that set the starting lineup for the Daytona 500. Jones-Drew, who had never seen a race before, wants to be part of NASCAR. "I want to be an owner," he said, according to the Florida Times Union. "I think that would be exciting." It may have helped that he went to the race with Jaguars assistant equipment managers George Pellicer and Cory Fancher, who are both apparently big into NASCAR. Jones-Drew may have only seen one race in his life, but he's already got his ownership philosophy: "The key to being a good owner is who you have with you," he said. "I don't think any one person can run a race team. You need to have a lot of good people. I would get all the good people I can and I would give them the very best of what they needed. But we'd also have rules. We'd have a way to do things and you'd have to follow that." He'll be in good company. The New England Patriots' Randy Moss has owned a Camping World Truck series team for a few years and former NBA player Brad Daugherty owns the NASCAR Cup team JTG Daugherty Racing that fields the #47 Toyota Camry driven by Marcos Ambrose.![]()

Isn't that the Tasmanian devil next to Jones-Drew? He looks positively tiny in comparison! By the way, I added the NASCAR news widget to my blog's nav bar. Let me know if you want the code to add it to yours. I'll send it to you if you want.
