A series of candles glow in tribute inside the Dale Earnhardt, Inc. headquarters in Mooresville during the 9th annual Dale Earnhardt Candlelight Tribute. It has been held yearly since the loss of Dale Earnhardt in 2001. The tribute will allow fans to celebrate Earnhardt's life and pay tribute to the seven-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. Karin Moss, Executive Director of the Dale Earnhardt Foundation said "we have such an emotional bond with our fans. This is truly the house that Dale built". This was the first time that the tribute was held inside the DEI facility.

His death was tragic for his family and the sport. It almost seemed impossible considering the safety initiatives installed on the cars.
Bonnie * the head gear was not in effect until after his death and he did not wear the double harnass and his head snapped back. His death brought about loads of new safety items including the new car designs.
That was a sad day, his family has not handled things as well as the could have. Shame
Larry * I TOTALLY disagree * both Theresa and Richard Childress have handled this extremely well. They are allowing his fans to come into his shop, see his cars * these are his cars * not the RCR cars that he drove and the event is moving and a tribute to him and his memory.
It's NOT Elvis Week...it is a day of rememberance.
