GM offering reinstement letters to 600+ dealers who were RIFFED (reduction in force) over a year ago may be a welcome distraction for the media and administration expecting dealers to beg to be reinstated; however, many of these dealers have other automakes on their lots, have reduced their sales and repair staff AND economized to stay in business * LEAN and MEAN * if you will.
Why would a dealer who has been shafted with no reason given want to get back in? Auto dealer groups are welcoming the chance for reinstatement to get the GM brand back on the roads; however, from the dealer's perspective, if they are surviving WITHOUT GM - why go back and trust the government that does not honor its agreements? again...

I am a big fan of "General Motors" but not "Government Motors" I am still upset that they have dropped the Pontiac brand despite the fact I wouldn't buy their new cars but loved the older ones.
As a teen in SC, I wanted a GTO so badly!!! Boys wanted 442s and girls wanted GTOs....Tony Stewart won his FIRST Cup championship in a Pontiac!!!
It will be very interesting to see how this unfolds.... If I was was them I would be more than cautious...
Raylene * I agree and people who come BACK to those dealerships for employment need to think twice also...last hired/first fired if they are collecting unemployment * jumping BACK into deal with GM may not be wise.
Some of the GM dealers in my town had been selling them since the 1920s. Then they pull their franchise out from under them. Makes no sense. You think having more dealers selling your product would be a good thing. Now if we can just get the government out of the car business.
I agree and those dealers need to think long and hard about getting back in bed with this administration
One of the best family dealerships we ever dealt with closed their doors after 3 generations. They practiced old fashioned honesty and cared about their customers.
I don't know that after this length of time they could or would re-open. There will be a GM truck in our future but I guess we will have to find another dealership.
My husband buys Jeeps * he has a 2010 Cherokee * and I LOVE my Lexus * I'm on my second RX after having Chevy Blazers for 16 years...I need a soft ride and the auto lift gate is awesome.
Our Chevy and Dodge dealers stayed in town...I'm not sure about the rest of the area
