PropertyManagementMaven: "Nice IRISH Neighborhood" in Craigslist Ad Costs Landlord $1,000

"Nice IRISH Neighborhood" in Craigslist Ad Costs Landlord $1,000

I am amazed that this continues to happen in this day and age.  I am surprised that the fine is not LARGER

Wallace: I'm surprised about the low fine too, especially after reading about the landlord's conduct in person.  On the other hand, as an American of Irish descent, I'm glad we've come full-circle and it's actually considered a plus for people to want to be in neighborhoods where we live.  The discrimination against Irish immigrants was pretty bad when they first started settling in America.  It's really an interesting post, thank you for sharing!

David * I'm reading Ted Kennedy's book and he continually talks about his IRISH neighborhood of Boston that he ACTUALLY lived in later in his life

I see violations frequently when surveying Craigslist.  Most people are making innocent "slips of the tonge" when writing their ads.

I am surprised at the low fine as well.  Usually they are more ruthless on this kind of thing.

People still say "colored"??????

As far as the "Irish Neighborhood" description, mmmmmm, it wasn't tooooo bad. BUT, it wasn't tasteful either.  We have to be careful on that one since we dont want to be regulated to death. We dont want to get fined because we say "China Town" or "Little Italy".

But I agree, the racial comments are pretty ridiculous

Johnny * San Francisco has a TOURIST AREA called China Town * Big sign and bus tours of the area.  Ted Kennedy in his book written 3 years ago talks about the IRISH areas of Boston....I think the "sillyness" is evidenced by the $1,000 fine

Hi Wallace , who is keeping tabs on the slurs from the current administration as to : tea baggers, over active white people ,etc..So I guess it would be appropriate to say "a nice tea bagger friendly area"?

I am not surprised that this still occurs. Many people are ignorant to the reality that this does not fly any more. He was luck that a $1000 fine and mandatory training was the extent of his fine.

I think a higher penalty fee would be charged if it were a real estate agent who said such a thing.  WE know better, some civilians don't think the rules apply to them...

I'm still shaking my head over that one...and I LIVE in that "neighborhood!"

How did I miss the Buffalo News article?
