PropertyManagementMaven: Craigslist NO LONGER Likes POSTLETS * I L♥VE Postlets

Craigslist NO LONGER Likes POSTLETS * I L♥VE Postlets

I have been using POSTLETS html for as long as I have been using Craigslist to post my rental properties.

They offer an ALTERNATIVE to my HERO/ listing html AND I can CONTROL posting to their partner sites.

After doing a new rental listing on my website, I copy/paste the WATERMARKED photos from the PUBLIC view of my website and I use those as my POSTLETS listing photos.

357 Rolkin Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22911

....however, Craigslist no longer likes postlets html....they say so after you create or REpost one of their listing * and they tell you not to post anything with

OK.....I've found an alternative listng html using vFlyer and I can always use the Craigslist listing format which now allows for 8 photos.

I am continuing to make POSTLETS listings because...1) I can post rental listings to Fb and Google+ without an EXTRA/additional charge because it is FREE; and 2) I can post my listings on the sidebar of my ActiveRain blog.

I don't need to know the backstory about the Craigslist/postlets tiff.....I just know that creating a POSTLETS of my clients' rental properties is the SECOND step on my marketing CHECK-LIST!

I noticed the same thing.  I too use and love Postlets.  I wonder if it is just a programming issue since they have the "submit to Craiglsit" .  Maybe they can work through their issues????

I like Realbirds better.. Postlets never allowed me to put in a listing that was not on the map.. I do new construction with addresses that don't have old enough locations.. postlets wants me to make up something nearby and thus not great info for buyers.. I never bonded with Postlets.. and Craigslist is getting worse to deal with anyway..

Posted by Janis Borgueta, LIC RE Salesperson (Key Properties of the Hudson Valley ) almost 7 years ago

Using postlets is very popular with DIY landlords - they get to save them and then update and REpost them as needed; however, Craigslist has a new mapping option that does not like the postlets html from what I am reading.

Just FYI.. perhaps this could also help you.

I'm using plain pictures in Craigslist directing people with one click where I want to send them. . I host the pics on blogger and by changing a phrase before and after the picture's html. .it lets me post the same the same ad several times. .

I've used Postlets for several years and it has generated good business for me.

Unfortunately, Postlets violates Craigslist's terms of use (and always has) so this is just Craigslist taking explicit action to block it.  I expect they will start blocking other services in due course.

But yes, totally agree, the HTML text that Postlets generates is great for posting elsewhere.

I like hand crafting a simple looking but link loaded craigs list insertion. So it does not appear slick and copy, paste so the reader thinking bargain gets the format that is simple, like the other for sale by owners. But more imagery, video links, loaded with the A to Z. Like playing music, depends on the audience.

So, I am looking for something besides postlets now.

Posted by Michael Setunsky, Your Commercial Real Estate Link to Northern VA almost 7 years ago

Is it because Zillow has bought Postlets?  I think they did.  Someone bought Postlets.  Maybe they were messing up the HTML code, violating Craigslists posting rules.

Posted by Gary Frimann, CRS, GRI, REALTOR and Broker (Eagle Ridge Realty / Signature Homes & Estates) almost 7 years ago

I think this is a travesty!  Postlets has always helped create very nice looking posts on Craiglist.  Taking that ability away seems like sour grapes on the part of Craigslist.

The most Craigslist puts rules on what they will allow, the more they open the potential for a competitor to come in and offer something better.

Posted by Bryan Robertson almost 7 years ago

Of course I wasn't aware of this. I used postlets exclusively with Craigslist. Loved the ease of use. Back to the drawing boards I guess...

While we don't take Craigslist too seriously when posting For Sale listings, our rentals do get a lot of traffic from that site. Shame to here it won't work, we use Zillow's html as well, but our tech guy removes the Zillow branding from the html code.

Posted by Wallace S. Gibson, CPM, LandlordWhisperer (Gibson Management Group, Ltd.) almost 7 years ago

Realbird uses flash which Craigslist won't let you add.  Craigslist changes every so often, it is a good thing.  As for the comment on craigslist and others posting your listing ((WITHOUT PERMISSION)), most MLS boards are reciprocal and thus does not give them permission to use your listing on anything other than their personal business website or brokers website.  Craigslist, Backpage, Oodle, etc do not qualify as personal websites or broker website. Contact your local board and turn them in!!!!

You have been “ghosted”. I have use postlets but zillow  has been a problem I like V-flyer but it has its own problem

Ghosting is a common problem for property managers posting their rentals on Craigslist. I have found manual installing work the best.

Strange, because it says right on the postlets home page that you can post to zillow and craigslist? I wonder of you have to set up a new account through Zillow? I have been using postlets off and on for a few+ years. With CL, rentals seem to get more activity. Sales sem to attract time wasters and curiousty seekers most of the time. I also use Realbird, and I have a rental listing using Realbird. I'll check and see if I can psot it to CL. I think I did it not long ago and it worked fine.

Another challenge to add but there is always a solution. I personally prefer the ugly ads, they seem to work better for some reason.

Posted by Raymond Kennedy (Keller Williams Preferred Realty) almost 7 years ago

Wallace, thank you for blogging about this particular issue.   We have been meaning to blog about this particular issue.  Craigslist changed their algorithm this fall which made it exteremely difficult to post html Ads.   Given that postlets html code is very similar across the board, CL algorithm essentially thinks that postlet users are duplicate posting which in turn results in a deletion.   Also, Postlets is not the only site affected by these changes.

There is a very simple solution to the problem.  I will be blogging about it pretty soon.

Posted by Ron Aguilar, Mortgage & Real Estate Advisor since 1995 (Continental Mortgage) almost 7 years ago

Did a post on this a few weeks ago.  Yes & according to Postlets they don't know what is happening. CL says that there are people reposting the same listing over & over & they are trying to put a stop to it.  Only thing with Vflyers is after 2 listings they charge.  Could it be that Postlets now being owned by Z is being discriminated against?

We can only hope ;-) but that doesn't help people that use CL.  I was told they are working on it a few weeks ago & are aware of the problem.  My virtual tour also offers a similiar HTML posting that I am now using too.  Be creative & start looking now.

Seems to be too that if you let the listing expire you haven't got a chance of getting it back in so keep an eye on those & repost on the 6th day or so.

It was my understanding that using an outside posting service like Postlets, or any kind of system that allowed you to avoid writing a new ad, or linking the ad to a website was a violation of the user agreement. It sounds like CL is just trying to enforce the agreement you have with them.

There are lots of folks trying to find ways around those rules. Even opening a new account so you can keep doing the stuff until you get caught again is a violation, IMHO.

Am I understanding this wrong?

I just came across your post and though I'm a bit late to the discussion, I wanted to chime in with some more information about vFlyer.

vFlyer provides our users with Craigslist-compatible HTML code for their listings. While some users find that some of their posts are ghosted or blocked (which can happen to any Craigslist post, regardless of whether it uses HTML or not), most are able to post with no problem. For cases where ghosting occurs, we offer a shorter, more lightweight HTML format.

We also provide various listing widgets to put on ActiveRain blogs and websites and allow users to upload their own watermarks to their photos.

Visit to learn more about our Craigslist templates.

And thanks for the post, Wallace.
