While reading Mary B. Gallagher's book about her being Jacqueline Kennedy's private secretary, I learned something that I had know known before...that JFK and JBK built a home together in VA during his 3 short years as president.
While they owned a home in the Kennedy compound in MA and they where the owners of Hickory Hill in VA before Bobby and Ethel Kennedy bought it, they also bought 38 acres on Rattlesnake Mountain in NoVA and built a home called Atoka which is the name of a nearby community.
The home was completed in the spring of 1963 and the Kennedys only spent 3 weekends in the house as a family and this is the place that Jackie and her children went after JFK was killed.
She sold the home in 1964 and 50 years later, it was on the market for over $10,000,000. Sources indicate the home originally cost $100,000 to build.
Although renamed by subsequent owners, the name Wexford appears to be the most common.
